Enrolment Dates and To Book a Course

Submit a deposit (minimum $300) and enrolment form to the Academy, along with your results for the following online assessment - LLN online assessment. The Academy will send you a code to access this assessment.

As this is a self-paced course, you can start any time. A representative will contact you to confirm your enrolment and arrange an initial support phone interview.

Course Description

Are you a practicing manager? Do you want to gain skills in management? This course will enable you to be an effective team leader by helping you develop skills that are proactive and innovative. Develop an effective and efficient team-oriented environment and achieve greater profits and strategic outcomes. The Diploma of Leadership and Management is designed for those who aspire to achieve great results in the workplace.

Entry Requirements

The structure of this course is based on the assumption that management is not an entry level qualification and that learners are likely to have considerable experience in their respective industries have previously undertaken training and have existing qualifications. The course provides information and activities that support self-directed learning and assessment, therefore a high level of literacy and comprehension will be required as well as significant work experience. All assessment materials must be submitted typed. Handwritten materials will not be accepted.

If candidates are seeking entry into the course, they should have Certificate IV in Leadership and Management or have industry experience in roles such as Coordinator, Leading Hand, Supervisor or Team Leader. This breadth of expertise would equate to the competencies required to undertake this qualification.

Time Frame and Study Options

This accredited course can be completed in one (1) year of self-paced learning. It is recommended that you plan to complete a unit per month. Participants may complete their assignments earlier than this as this is qualification is a self-paced program. Unlimited support by email and phone is available. 

Course Delivery

The course involves gaining information online and putting your new learning into practice in the workplace. The course will be delivered online via the Academy website. Support materials will include:

- Self-paced learning material that you can weave around your schedule and individual requirements.

- Flexible delivery customised to your requirements and your schedule via the Academy website.

Course Content

This course requires a total number of 12 units. This includes four (4) core units and eight (8) electives.

Core units

BSBLDR501 Develop and use emotional intelligence

This unit covers the development and use of emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management in the context of the workplace.

BSBLDR502 Lead and manage effective workplace relationships

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage effective workplace relationships.

BSBMGT517 Manage operational plan

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and monitor implementation of the operational plan to provide efficient and effective workplace practices within the organisation’s productivity and profitability plans.

BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead teams in the workplace and to actively engage with the management of the organisation.

Elective units (choose 8)

BSBCUS501 Manage quality customer service

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop strategies to manage organisational systems that ensure products and services are delivered and maintained to standards agreed by the organisation.

BSBHRM405 Support the recruitment, selection and induction of staff

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to execute tasks associated with the recruitment cycle and apply in-depth knowledge of the work of the organisation, and how recruitment and selection practices fit with other human resources functions.

BSBLED501 Develop a workplace learning environment

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to encourage and support the development of a learning environment in which work and learning come together. Particular emphasis is on the development of strategies to facilitate and promote learning and to monitor and improve learning performance.

BSBMGT502 Manage people performance

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the performance of staff who report to them directly. Development of key result areas and key performance indicators and standards, coupled with regular and timely coaching and feedback, provide the basis for performance management.

BSBMGT516 Facilitate continuous improvement

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on the development of systems and the analysis of information to monitor and adjust performance strategies, and to manage opportunities for further improvements.

BSBRSK501 Manage risk

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting.

BSBWHS501 Ensure a safe workplace

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate the organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements. It takes a systems approach and addresses compliance with relevant legislative requirements.

BSBWOR501 Manage personal work priorities and professional development

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create systems and process to organise information and prioritise tasks.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you are an experienced Office Manager, you may wish to complete this Diploma of Leadership and Development with a combination of self-directed study and RPL. Please enquire about our RPL or upgrade program.

- Interview with Academy staff member and application identifying past experiences.

- Portfolio of evidence required to substantiate claims

- Self-paced materials and templates will be provided to applicants wishing RPL for guidance in providing evidence.

Cost for Recognition of Prior Learning is $1200.00

The Academy’s commitment to our Learners

The Academy of Career Training is responsible for delivering training and assessment in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015. When you finalise payments and complete all course work and assessments, then The Academy of Career Training will issue the AQF Certificates or Statements of Attainment. If the Academy closes or ceases to deliver any part of this course, then we will make arrangements to transfer your assessments and course work to another Registered Training Organisation so that you can complete your qualification, or we will refund your full fees.
