Course Description

What do I do first? Where do I start? If you have ever looked at a stack of papers and thought “Where do I start?” then this course is for you. This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to plan own work schedules, monitor and obtain feedback on work performance and make a plan to develop your work skills.

Course Content

This course divides the content into 4 x 2 hour sessions which can build upon each other or stand alone.

  1. Time management
    • Managing own work time on a 24 hour shift
    • Down time vs. Productivity / Company policy vs. Real Life
    • Work objectives / Team and individual work and learning goals
  2. Plan and complete own work schedule
    • Work objectives and priorities are analysed and incorporated into personal schedules
    • Getting around things that get in the way
    • Business technology. Are there any “new and improved” gadgets that can help?
  3. How am I doing?
    • Honestly analysing work performance
    • How can we honestly gaining feedback and improve our performance?
  4. Seek out professional development
    • How can I do my job better?
    • Who can I talk to?
    • What opportunities do I have?
    • Every day in every way I do my job better and better.

Duration

8 hours face-to-face (4 x 2 hr workshops. 4 Stand – alone events or 1 x 8 hour day) supplemented by self-paced learning and on-the job application.

Entry Requirements

there are no entry requirements. Cost includes individual study materials. Students must provide writing materials.

Course Award

Upon completion of the self – pace material, the individual will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for BSBWOR404 - Develop work priorities.

Career Opportunity

Being able to organise personal work priorities is one of the most important skill in monitoring your own work performance and in leading your work group. These two units of competency are from the Business Services Training Package, but this unit of competency can be applied to many training package in any workplace that requires managing your own time and work schedule.
