Course Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification. However, participants should:

  • Be Employed in a Relevant Role: As this qualification is delivered via employment-based training, participants must be employed in a drilling-related position.

  • Basic Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Participants should have a foundational level of literacy and numeracy to complete the course materials and assessments.

  • USI (Unique Student Identifier): Participants must provide a USI for enrolment in accredited training in Australia.

Assessment Method

Participants will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, workplace portfolios, and written assessments.   • BSBWHS301 – Maintain Workplace Safety

    • focuses on maintaining workplace safety by applying safety policies, identifying hazards, and implementing control measures. Participants learn how to monitor compliance and respond to incidents, ensuring a safe environment for employees.

  • MSMENV172 – Identify and Minimise Environmental Hazards

    • equips participants with the skills to identify environmental hazards such as pollution and waste. It teaches practical strategies to minimise environmental impact while adhering to regulations.

  • RIIBEF301D – Run On-Site Operations

    • develops skills in managing on-site operations, including supervising teams, allocating resources, and monitoring work progress to ensure smooth and efficient operations in line with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

  • RIICOM301E – Communicate Information

    • focuses on effective workplace communication. Participants learn how to convey information clearly between team members, supervisors, and stakeholders, using appropriate communication tools to enhance collaboration.

  • RIIERR302E – Respond to Local Emergencies and Incidents

    • prepares participants to respond to workplace emergencies, such as fires or hazardous spills, by following established procedures, using emergency equipment, and minimising risks to personnel and property.

  • RIINHB301E – Set Up and Prepare for Drilling Operations

    • teaches how to organise and prepare drilling sites, ensuring equipment is set up correctly and safety protocols are followed prior to drilling operations.

  • RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes

    • focuses on identifying, assessing, and controlling risks in the workplace. Participants learn to conduct risk assessments and develop control strategies to ensure safety measures are effectively implemented.

  • RIISAM209E – Carry Out Operational Maintenance

    • covers the knowledge required to perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment. Participants learn how to inspect equipment, identify potential issues, and carry out repairs to maintain safety and functionality.

 

5 Elective Units

  • RIINHB324E – Conduct Grouting or Cementing Operations:
    Develop the skills needed to perform grouting or cementing operations during drilling. Learn how to safely and effectively mix, pump, and monitor cement and grout for well integrity and other applications.

  • TAEDEL301 – Provide Work Skill Instruction:
    Acquire the ability to provide instruction and coaching to other workers on-site. Learn how to pass on skills and knowledge effectively, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.

  • RIINHB311E – Conduct Mud Rotary Drilling Operations:
    Learn to operate mud rotary drilling equipment, including setting up, drilling, and maintaining mud flow and pressure. Develop the skills to conduct this drilling technique efficiently and safely.

  • RIINHB307D – Conduct Conventional Core Drilling:
    Gain practical experience in conducting conventional core drilling operations. Learn to set up, operate, and maintain equipment, while ensuring core samples are extracted safely and accurately.

  • RIINHB308D – Conduct Wireline Core Drilling:
    Understand the wireline core drilling method, which is used to retrieve core samples without removing the drill rods. Learn the procedures for setting up and operating wireline core drilling equipment.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised RII31820 Certificate III in Drilling Operations. This qualification is highly regarded in the drilling and resources industry and provides a pathway for further study or career advancement.
