Course Description:

The G1, G8, G9 Refresher Course, formerly known as S123, is designed for individuals who have previously completed the G1, G8, G9 Mining Supervisor qualification and need to refresh their skills and knowledge to maintain compliance with Queensland’s mining health and safety regulations. This refresher course ensures supervisors, team leaders, and safety officers continue to apply up-to-date risk management, safety investigation, and communication practices in their roles.

The G1, G8, G9 Refresher Course aims to update participants on any changes to legislation, safety protocols, and risk management processes, while reinforcing essential leadership skills required for maintaining safe and effective mining operations.

 

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

• Apply current risk management techniques and respond effectively to workplace hazards.

• Conduct thorough safety and health investigations, adhering to updated safety standards.

• Communicate clearly and effectively within their teams, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace.

The G1, G8, G9 Refresher Course is intended for:

• Individuals who have previously completed the G1, G8, G9 Mining Supervisor training and need to renew their qualifications to remain compliant.

• Mining supervisors, team leaders, shift supervisors, and contractors who require up-to-date skills and knowledge in risk management, safety investigations, and workplace communication.

• Site personnel responsible for overseeing safety and operational compliance on Queensland mining sites.

• Face-to-Face (Classroom-Based): 1 day refresher session that covers theory, updates, and practical exercises.

• Online Learning : Complete theoretical content online at your convenience, followed by a workplace evidence practical assessment.

Course Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

 

To enrol in the G1, G8, G9 Refresher Course, participants must meet the following entry requirements:

​

• Completion of Initial G1, G8, G9 Training: Participants must have previously completed the full G1, G8, G9 Mining Supervisor training.

• USI (Unique Student Identifier): A USI is required for enrolment in any accredited training in Australia.

Assessment Method

Participants will be assessed through:

​

• Written Assessments: Multiple-choice and short answer questions to confirm understanding of updated safety protocols, risk management, and communication practices.

• Practical Assessments: Participants will be required to demonstrate their competency in handling risks, conducting safety investigations, and effectively communicating on-site.

​Course Content

​

The G1, G8, G9 course covers three core units of competency, each designed to address specific supervisory responsibilities and safety protocols:

​

1. G1 – RIIRIS301E: Apply Risk Management Processes

   • Introduction to the risk management process.

   • Identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards in a mining environment.

   • Development of effective risk control measures and monitoring their effectiveness.

2. G8 – RIIWHS301E: Conduct Safety and Health Investigations

   • Understanding and conducting workplace health and safety investigations.

   • Reporting, recording, and responding to workplace incidents.

   • Gathering and analysing information to develop investigation reports.

3. G9 – RIICOM301E: Communicate Information

   • Effective communication within a mining environment.

   • Reporting safety incidents and communicating operational instructions.

   • Ensuring clear and concise transfer of information across teams and stakeholders.

 

Certification

​

Upon successful completion of the G1, G8, G9 Refresher Course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following nationally recognised units of competency:

​

• RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes

• RIIWHS301E – Conduct Safety and Health Investigations

• RIICOM301E – Communicate Information

 

This certification is valid for five years, after which participants will need to renew their qualifications to maintain compliance with current safety regulations.

Please note that your certification will be issued within 30 calendar days of meeting these requirements, in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) guidelines.
